Hacker News Google Chrome Extension
Update
And just like that it’s unpublished. :( I’m not going to encourage the use of this extension right now until there’s a resource friendly API to get at this type of data.
Original
I just published a Google Chrome extension I made that starts to add a couple things I’ve wanted to get from Hacker News.
- Yes, I am guilty of checking my karma too much :) I don’t even have that much of it. But I fall into the desire of checking if people are digging a submission of mine or comment. But to check you need to go back to Hacker News and reload the page constantly, breaking up my productivity.
- I really wish I could get a good notification that someone commented on a submission I made so I can reply without having to check Hacker News repeatedly.
So here it is:

It only accomplished the karma check (#1 above) right now. It will take a baseline of your karma for the day the first time the extension is loaded, and tell you how much new karma you got for the day. And will take a new baseline the following day.
And if you want to hack on it:
Note:
I realize there are a dozen other Hacker News extensions that do different things, and we could all probably join forces. And maybe one day this type of thing should be merged.
But all I wanted was a couple new notifications from Hacker News as well as to tackle a little project to learn more about CoffeeScript and Chrome Extensions.
This is also very alpha. It should work for you :) but if it doesn’t let me know.
